WA ROLLER DERBY is releasing its inaugural fundraising compilation album. Featuring 16 incredible local bands from established artists with national and international tours under their belts to the exciting newcomers setting the scene on fire. Titled ‘Rink Rash and Whiplash’ after some of the injuries these girls endure this album’s certain to turn heads. To celebrate the new derby league, the bands that support them and the new album the girls have planned amazing night with a line up to die for. During the evening there will be performances from the finest ladies of the Perth Neo Burlesque, Iskra Valentine and Penny Dreadful. Bringing the noise will be CHAINSAW HOOKERS, AAAGH BATS! and PROJECT MAYHEM.

Chainsaw Hookers with their catchy melodies behind an ear shattering wall of noise are staples of the local scene for playing hard, fast and loud. AAAGH BATS! have begun achieving legendary status amongst the roller derby community and are quickly becoming the band to watch in WA. With cussing at the top of their lungs, semi-nudity and epic guitar solos it’s a show not to be missed. If that’s not already enough to make you hyperventilate we have the amazing Project Mayhem bringing their high energy punk, hurtlin’ rock’n'roll choruses and epic riffs back from their national tour!! Guaranteed rock’n’roll bad-assery at it’s absolute very best. See them now before they are only playing arenas!

Our derby girls will also be there for meet and greets and to show everyone what derby’s all about …. so get down and say hello!

It all goes down on Saturday April 17th at the Fly By Night in Fremantle. Doors open 7.30pm. Presale tickets – $10 (www.flybynight.org or box office 08 94305976) Door tickets $15, if available

About WA Roller Derby:

WA Roller Derby is a grassroots, volunteer run, not-for-profit sports league. It was formed in order to bring a sport, which has been growing exponentially across the globe, to all corners of WA.
Roller derby, having faded after previous popularity, has been back with a vengeance since the early 2000’s, with leagues all over the world putting on events which draw thousands of fans. Unfortunately, WA has missed most of this incredible revival, which is something these feisty, strong women are hell bent on changing. They already have teams training in Bunbury, Fremantle, Joondalup and Queens Park – with even more on the way!

It is a women’s full contact sport with a satirical punk feminism aesthetic. With team names like The Cut Lasses and skater names like Dayzee A’Dare you’d be forgiven for thinking it was all for fun. However these girls have a combination of skill, strength and stamina that most footy players would be pressed to match. Players attempt to lap a group of skaters. Members of their opposition team attempt to prevent this by knocking them down or out. Members of the same team help by taking out the opposition or by giving the legendary whip! It’s tough, it’s brutal, it’s fast and it’s fun.

The album will be available for purchase at the launch event. It will then be available from Monday 19th of April at selected retailers and online. Details and retailer lists will be announced on www.warollerderby.com.au closer to release date.
