Perth band, THE SILENT EMPIRE’S debut EP, SHADOW ENEMY showcases a band that are as much story tellers as they are musicians, with songs that explore the heartache of death, depression & war, through to the celebration of life & love.
Forming in 2006, members SONNY VITALE & GRANT EDELMAN have kept their secret hidden inside a home made studio in the shed of in an inner city backyard.
The band set out to re-create their select collection of songs, which have been a year in the making. For this to happen the band recorded & produced their own music using a range of their own applications, an arsenal of musical equipment and six amazing songs.
However, don’t let this fine detail deter you, with the labor of many a nights producing a polished EP that would hold its own amongst some of the finest local producers & releases.
As SHADOW ENEMY slowly took form, so did the songs as they branched away from their acoustic form, unveiling new ways to communicate and evolve the songs and their meanings.
Knowing each other for over 15 years has been the glue that has held this musicianship together through previous bands & other side projects.
A musicianship that sees a lifetime of influences such as Jazz, Roots, Soul, Classical & Flamenco, all the way through to Hard Rock / Metal bands including, The Beatles, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, Sepultura and Led Zeppelin. Each of their differences a contributing factor to why THE SILENT EMPIRE sound like nothing else.
EDELMAN/VITALE create beautifully complex music woven with heartfelt & catchy melodies held together by their pennant for lyrics with power & purpose.
Title track, SHADOW ENEMY begins with a throbbing bass drum that gradually builds to a climax that should only be enjoyed through a loud stereo. The echo of VITALE’S vocals resonate the scared reality of losing a loved one too soon on FOREVER MY BRIDE while the Latin & flamenco feel of ROMAN EYES brings out the upbeat side of the duo.
