“Smooth harmonies, a great bass line, a nod to Vampire Weekend… it all makes for a shining indie pop tune.” 4/5 – Dom Alessio, triple j
Rainy Day Women’s debut EP uncovers a classic singer-songwriter in Dylan Ollivierre – a former solo artist whose increasingly bombastic songs found the need for full-band dynamics. Thusly, on the west coast, Rainy Day Women were born. And as the band has developed – introducing themselves mid-2011 with the ‘If’ single – Ollivierre’s knack for pop songwriting has become richer, more universal and darker.
‘If’ led the band on their first national tour, supported by heavy community radio and Triple J airplay Australia-wide, and as Rainy Day Women became a more refined and intuitive live band, so too did their songs come with an increasingly tenacious confidence.
Teaming up with producer Andy Lawson (Eskimo Joe, End Of Fashion), Rainy Day Women have captured both their pop subtleties and their live power on their debut EP Sleigh Bed – the final chapter of a smashing first year.
Off the back of numerous supports and festival appearances in 2011, Rainy Day Women will commence 2012 with an EP of their best material and a whole lotta touring. The gear is in the boot and the keys are in the ignition!
Rainy Day Women will kick-start their Sleigh Bed Tour with the launch of the EP at Amplifier Bar on Friday February 3. Providing supports on the night will be Triple J favourites The Ghost Hotel, indie rockers TV Snow, and WAM Song Of The Year award winners Sam Carmody & The Warning Birds.
