Bands K-O — 22 February 2010
Offbeat Antics

ROCK / POP / ALTERNATIVE

Since the beginning in 2006, passionate lust for musical experience has led them to explore the joys of many styles of music.

The rhythmic spikes of funk, the rolling bass and furious high hats of new wave, the crash of distorted hard rock guitar or the spaced out ambience of psychedelic, have all been appropriated, the inspiring elements of these many styles added to a core of solid pop rock. Through whatever the blend of styles produced in their dynamic set, there is always a binding pop structure, and a reverent attention to pop sensibility and harmony, which makes so catchy.

This four-piece band also has a taste for the wonders of new music technology and the balance of man and machine in modern music, adding their own unique brand of ‘synthesizer wizardry’, big fuzz bass sounds, and spaced-out guitar delay.

Importantly the live show of Offbeat Antics is one of their strengths. A punter may come for one band, but they will always leave having remembered the passion and energy and pure delight that exudes Offbeat Antics when they are doing the thing they love most, playing music.

The band draws much of its inspiration from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Muse. It also appreciates the song writing brilliance and simplicity of the Beatles.

“With an energetic and talented frontman, and some killer harmonies behind him, the vocal attack was just part of Offbeat Antics’ charm. Their songs were dynamic and catchy… Offbeat Antics gave tonight’s set their all, and the end result was half an hour of enthusiastic and impressive rock. Expect these guys to do big things in the Perth rock scene.” – George Green, 2008. X-press Magazine.

“Offbeat Antics opened to a modestly sized crowd, offering an interesting blend of solid funk rhythms, upbeat hard rock, with a dash of synthesizer wizardry” – Tristan Broomhall, 2008. Drum Media Magazine.
