The uber-hip Sydney collective FUTURE CLASSIC will showcase a curated evening of the hottest rising Australian talents in live and electronic music on Saturday 16 February at the Chevron Festival Gardens as part of the 2013 Perth Festival.
Headlining this dynamic night will be Australian duo FLIGHT FACILITIES, known for blissed-out electro-pop tracks and on-the-mark collaborations in ‘Crave You’, ‘Foreign Language’, ‘With You’, and their most recent single, the sublime ‘Clair de Lune’. With the past two years of touring in Europe, the US, Japan and South East Asia under their belt, Flight Facilities have cultivated a fiercely loyal global following with over 11 million views on their YouTube page and a place in the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2010. Expect the dance-floor hedonism of Daft Punk and an intoxicating head rush from this powerhouse duo.
Sydney quintet PANAMA, and newest signing to Future Classic, are steeped in splashes of yacht rock, hopeful house music and an avid appreciation for the ‘80s. Panama’s music is brimming with golden nostalgia, channelling the likes of Peter Gabriel and nods to fellow Australian dance floor residents Cut Copy and Van She. Their live show is shimmering and anthemic in its delivery.
Nipping at the heels of Holy Ghost!, MITZI blend lazy disco grooves and pop hooks into live dance-floor bliss. Their song writing and delivery have earnt them nods as NME’s ‘Buzz Artist’ and the inthemix Best Local Newcomer in 2011, as well as accolades from MTV, saying “What Cut Copy does for new wave, Mitzi does for disco.”
Perth-based SCENIC will bring some local music lovin’ to the stellar Future Classic line-up. Their enchanting, tropical feel-good dance music will be a perfect anecdote to kicking off this balmy summer’s night. Known for ‘Another Sky’ and ‘Endless Days’, come and see for yourself why they were quickly spotted by “The Godfather of French Electro” Joakim in 2010 and chosen to collaborate with French sport-chic brand Le Coq Sportif.
Packing the dance floor with classic soul edits, hip hop, disco and house grooves will be the FUTURE CLASSIC DJs, who search out the best tunes old or new, and delve into dusty vinyl classics as well as scouring the globe for the future in fresh and interesting new sounds. Responsible for introducing and supporting musical luminaries such as Sebastien Tellier, Mount Kimbie, and Little Dragon to Australian audiences, these respected purveyors of rhythm have been described by Time Out as “some seriously good music”, and will surprise and impress you all night long.
