Felicity Groom

FOLK / INDIE / ROCK

is a singer songwriter from the west coast of Australia, playing a kind of dark folk music heavily inspired by blokes like Nick Cave, Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen; and ladies like Kate Bush, Francois Hardy and Melanie.

Felicity has been passionate about music since she was just a little thing when her grandfather used to play honky tonk piano as she danced around his living room. Piano lessons started at the age of eleven and around this time she started writing her own songs…

Her first guitar was given to her by her first love. It wasn’t until they broke up that she stayed in her room and practiced on the thing – nothing like a broken heart to get those songs to start pouring out…It was when she arrived in London in 2004 that she really hit her straps- where she started playing great venues doing both supports slots and her own shows in the UK, Dublin and Paris.

Since arriving back in Perth in April 2006 she has been steadily increasing her profile by playing plenty of solo shows around town.

Upon seeing her play, a bunch of well known Perth musicians fell in love with her songs and decided they needed to be her backing band – an underground super group of sorts – now named The Black Black Smoke. The band is Alex Archer (The Kill Devil Hills), Andrew Ryan (Adam Said Galore/Fall Electric), Ian Chater (formerly of The Bank Holidays) and Vanessa Thornton (Jebediah).
