CD Review : The Joe Kings – Leave My Mind Behind/Fool For Love

Review By DAVID SAYERS

THE JOE KINGS have brought the blues to the table with their latest releases, the singles ‘Fool For Love’ and ‘Leave My Mind Behind’.

‘Leave My Mind Behind’ quickly demonstrates the group’s strong talent for penning a catchy tune, punctuated by the soulful vocals from singer Jack Stirling and a mind-blowing solo from guitarist Phil Leggett. The instrumentation is thoughtful, engaging and fun-loving, and while it isn’t the most original track you’ll ever hear, it is by no means derivative – The have successfully managed to breath fresh life into some established sounds.

‘Fool For Love’ rocks and rolls it’s way through six minutes of catchy guitar work, steady rhythms and a spattering of 70′s inspired keys. Finishing up with a hummed harmony, it’s the kind of music you get up and dance to, or at least swing your partner ’round a few times (to keep in the spirits of things).

‘Don’t Like Wine’ is the B-Side featured on both singles and it sounds like a dirty-blues romp emanating from someone’s smokey-hazed garage. The beat is full of swagger, and the guitar work once again dominates throughout. Enthusiasts will know doubt be eager to know the equipment used to create such delightfully creamy tones.

The leap from strength to strength with these tracks, each one displays a different side to the band, all of which are a delight to listen to. The recording quality is also exceptional, managing to capture the bands rawness without sacrificing fidelity.

This is highly recommended listening.
