CD Review: The Bullet Holes – Destroy The Fables
Review By KATIE ROLSTON

THE BULLET HOLES have well and truly experimented on their new album ‘Destroy The Fables’.

The Perth-based alternative rock band has brewed catchy songs, enhanced by a vocal quality typical of new punk: controlled yet uncontrolled. Guitars are inundated with the right amount of distortion and aren’t too dominating over a safe and steady bassline. The drumming has to be commended in setting an overall pace for the album, as it is definitely the most stylistically prominent along with the band’s classic vocals.

Song titles are edgier than the songs themselves with most being riffy and easy to shake your shoulders to. However, some tracks like ‘Tear It Up’ seem like almost too much has been fitted in, messing with overall song composition and making it harder to catch on at first listen. It’s hard to tell whether this is something that stands out as positive experimentation and personal style or is a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.

‘Destroy The Fables’ is a well compiled album showcasing tan introduction towards a more experimental new punk sound. This album tests the waters of timing but doesn’t discount the classic vocal sound. Worth a listen perhaps twice or thrice to get well into, the band’s dynamic approach to composition would sound much better in live performance.
