CD Review: Darren Guthrie – Not a Minute Too Late

Review by Alanna Eileen

‘Not a Minute Too Late’ is the latest EP from local talent DARREN GUTHRIE.  Consisting of four tracks, this enjoyable release showcases Guthrie’s accomplished guitar playing and highlights his skill as a songwriter.

The songs on the EP are perfect for singing along to; the catchy melody of gently-strummed ‘Sometimes’ is one of the most memorable with its simple arrangement accentuating Guthrie’s vocals. Other stand outs are the playfully optimistic closing track, ‘Live a Life of Love’ on which Guthrie encourages the listener to do just that – as well as the jaunty opener ‘Oh She Is!’

‘Not a Minute Too Late’ straddles the line between folk and pop while incorporating elements of blues music. Though it might have benefited from a more professional production, this does not detract from its value. Fans of acoustic music should definitely keep an eye out for future projects from this promising young musician.
