The 2012 Northbridge Saturday Spectacular, Supported by the City of Perth will happen on Saturday June 2, and feature 56 local acts playing eight stages from 12 midday to 6pm.
With two outdoor stages (Northbridge Piazza and Perth Cultural Centre Wetlands Stage), and six indoor venues (Ya Ya’s, The Mustang Bar, Universal Bar, The Court, Brass Monkey and The Bird), the Saturday Spectacular will once again be a smorgasbord of musical goodness, with all genres and styles represented on the day.
Outdoors at the Perth Cultural Centre Wetlands stage, a lively vibe will see Paulie P & Rocksteady, Rocket To Memphis, Sisters Doll, The Morning Night, The Siren Tower, The Tumblers and The Ghost Hotel entertain audiences throughout the afternoon.
The Northbridge Piazza will start the day with the melodic tunes of The Autumn Isles and Simon Kelly and The Big Bamboo, before the eclectic sounds of Seams, the party that is The Brow Horn Orchestra, post-rockers Runner, the distinctive folk sounds of James Teague and WA hip hoppers The Stoops.
Pop into Ya Ya’s to hear tusk, quintessential indie rockers The Community Chest, alt-rockers Colour The Sky, indie rock revivalists Place of Indigo, Stereoflower, heavier rockers Arts Martial and pop gems Umpire.
The Mustang Bar will get a taste of all things blues, folk and rock, with the heavy sounds of Law of Attraction and the grunge garage of The Coalminers Sect, the unrelenting and infectious tunes from The Love Junkies, country folkers Stoney Joe, bluegrass roots inspired vibes of The Seals, indie guitar tunesters Sugarpuss and blues punk rockers The Novocaines.
At the Universal Bar, audiences can check out the blues/jazz hybrid that is The Gypsie Howls and acoustic folk/pop songwriters Littlest Fox, as well as Hang on St. Christopher, Benedict Moleta Band, Robbie Jalapeno and the Fabulous Band of Faceless Bureaucrats, electronic disco kings Bastian’s Happy Flight, with the enchanting dance sounds of Scenic finishing the day.
The Court Hotel will bring the party vibe, with Spoonful of Sugar opening the day, followed by the sweet indie rock sounds Shimmergloom, the high energy banjo swinging tunes of Big Old Bears, the much loved funk soul sounds of Boom! Bap! Pow! and rockers Mezzanine. Ultimate party band Boys Boys Boys! will then hype up the crowd, before the old school rock and roots sounds of Palatial Digs keep the dance floor going til the end.
The Bird will see newcomers Greyjoy open the show ahead of indie pop rockers 44th Sunset, emotive and gritty Husband, experimental electronic artist Kit Pop, passionate alt-rockers Hostile Little Face, killer indie rockers Russian Winters and the intense rock sounds of Harlequin League.
New Saturday Spectacular venue for 2012, the Brass Monkey acoustic stage will open with the sweet tunes of 2011 Song of the Year Grand Prize Winner Timothy Nelson, before solo acoustic pop musician Jason Ayres, sweet indie folk duo Patient Little Sister, foot stomping blues rocker Chris Matthews, soulful blues and roots performer Joel Barker, guitar playing singer/songwriter Morgan Bain and raw blues and folk performer Junior Bowles.
The huge celebration of WA music is free, giving Perth the chance to see some of their favourite local bands performing around the Northbridge precinct. As in past years, the WAMi Craft Awards will be presented at the various venues throughout the day as below, and RTRfm will be broadcasting live from the event at Northbridge Piazza.
